Walnut peeling is an easy job, I would divide it in 3 ways, depending on the tools we use for it:
- Smashing walnuts that are on a metal sheet with a hammer
- Smashing walnuts that are on a stump or wooden background
- Smashing walnuts with what so called smasher
I would recommed before smashing walnuts that you water them first. You don’t need to drown them, just wet them. Because then the crust is easily peeled. You wet them by putting them into a bowl that has holes, and let the water on them. By this way you are wasting a lot of water, you can swipe them in the bathtub but be careful not to lose them.
Smashing walnuts with a metal hammer that are on a metal background
This way of smashing walnuts is usually smashing the core of the walnuts. You need to pay attention to the force of the strike, and I recommend doing it outside because the walnut crust will go everywhere.
Smashing walnuts with a metal hammer that are on the wooden background.
In my opinion this is the best way of doing this. You don’t need to pay as much attention to the force of the strike as on the previous one. I also recommend if you are doing it this way to do it outside, cause even now the crust will fly everywhere.
Smashing walnuts with a walnut tool
There are different types of this tool, in general the process is a bit longer than the previous methods. In previous methods it can happen that the walnut bites a little bit. While doing it this way you can get calluses. But that depends on the tool that you are using. There are tools for smashing walnuts that almost completely surround the walnut. They can be used indoors.
